What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

Therapy looks to your past to ascertain answers to questions about what is currently happening in your life. In part, it’s a diagnostic tool that begins with the premise that something is wrong, and that the answer is most likely rooted in your past.

Coaching sees your life as currently whole and views you as powerful. Coaching does not see you as being in need of a diagnosis. The focus is on your present and the creation of more of what you want, as well as clearing out what you don't want. Coaching provides a pathway for you to discover your own answers, which means they are the right answers for you because they are self-designed. You are the expert on your life, and effective change can only come from solutions you yourself have produced, created, and enacted. Powerful questions, strategizing, and clarity allow you to achieve what you may not have realized was possible. Coaching is about moving forward—not about looking back.

Catherine is a PCC coach. With 40,000 coaches in the world, only 2000 hold a PCC certification level.
